The 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship at Erin Hills and Blue Mound Golf & Country Club marked the first time the world’s premier amateur competition was held in Wisconsin, and it did not disappoint. The field was exceptionally strong, as demonstrated by the players’ performances before, during, and after the championship. Kelly Kraft defeated Patrick Cantlay in a memorable 36-hole final to win the Havemeyer Trophy.
Kraft, 22, from Denton, Texas, defeated Cantlay, 19, from Los Alamitos, California, 2 up at Erin Hills, to claim the 2011 U.S. Amateur Championship on the challenging 7,760-yard, par-72 layout.
In securing the title, Kraft triumphed over several future PGA Tour winners, including Harris English, Russell Henley, and Jordan Spieth (who reached the quarterfinals). Additionally, many participants from the 2011 U.S. Amateur competed in the 2017 U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills, including champion Brooks Koepka. Players who advanced to match play at Erin Hills have collectively achieved over 40 PGA Tour victories. Both Kraft and Cantlay have enjoyed sustained success in their professional careers and continue to compete regularly on the Tour today.
