Course map & Overview

Erin Hills is a course like none other — routed over the kettle moraine areas left by glaciers, surrounded by wetlands and a river, with ground that consists of glacial till of varied composition of sand and small rock. In an unconventional decision for a course in Wisconsin, the architects routed the fairways around contours of the property and provide a firm playing surface that plays shorter than its length on the scorecard.

The course was designed to accommodate world-class championships. This mix of traditional and modern elements as well as a championship test will leave many golfers with the feeling that they’ve never played anywhere like Erin Hills.

Course History

Long before golf was played at Erin Hills, the 652 acres of pristine land was host to icy fingers and streams from the last glacier to cover south central Wisconsin. Rivers carved graceful features into the landscape, turning the Kettle Moraine into the diverse region that it is today. Architects adopted a minimalist approach in designing Erin Hills, as nature had sculpted the land so well that the golf holes seemed to emerge from the property. With bentgrass greens and fairways, this walking course is quite literally a change of pace. To make Erin Hills your next destination to play, stay, eat and meet — for business or pleasure, plan your visit now.

Hole-by-hole

Prepare for your round (and overnight experience) by taking a tour of our lodging, dining, golf shop and of course our 4K hole by hole videos allowing you to become familiar with individual hole yardage and par scores.

Kettle Loop

In 2018 we introduced the Kettle Loop, a collection of five holes carved from the existing 18. Designed specifically for overnight guests who don’t quite have time for 9 or 18 holes before sunset or just want more time on the course after their round, the Kettle Loop provides a fun late-afternoon golf option.

Drumlin Putting Course

The Drumlin putting course at Erin Hills will act as a highly-visible centerpiece to a championship venue in the evening. Not simply because of its location (in full view of those dining, staying and playing), but because of the installation of custom, low-profile lighting that will illuminate the one-of-a-kind putting surface under the Wisconsin night sky.

Championship Practice Facility

The Erin Hills experience is not complete without a pre-round warm-up at the extensive practice facility. There are numerous tees that encircle the nine target greens and a short game area where one can lose track of time with the variety of shots presented. Private practice tees are available for groups. The practice putting green is steps from the 1st tee and provides the opportunity to smooth out the stroke before the round. Also available are two practice fairway bunkers, giving players the rare opportunity to practice full shots from the sand. The practice area is stocked with TaylorMades, a Tour performance golf ball.

Caddies

Erin Hills is a traditional walking-only course. We highly recommend enlisting one of our 150 professional caddies to help you read the green, manage your golf equipment, and advise on tee and club selection.
