Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in supporting the 2022 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship! This webpage is just for those who will be volunteering at Erin Hills during the championship. We greatly appreciate your willingness to support directly this championship. The link to register is at the bottom of the page.
Committees
Volunteers play an essential role in the conduct of the championship, and we sincerely appreciate those who generously donate their time to make this championship possible. The following is a list of committee assignments at Erin Hills:
Forecaddies/Marshals
During the two rounds of stroke play and the first two rounds of match play, the forecaddies will be assigned to specific holes to help spot balls. Each forecaddie will stay on the same hole for the duration of his or her shift.
For the last four rounds of match play, these marshals/forecaddies will accompany specific matches and provide crowd control as well as help spot balls. These volunteers must be able to walk, at a good pace, for at least 18 holes.
Walking Scorers
During stroke play and each round of match play, a walking scorer will accompany each group and record hole-by-hole scores on a device provided by the USGA. These scores will go to the USGA’s website, allowing for “live” scoring of the championship. A knowledge of golf, a comfort level with computers, and the ability to walk at least 18 holes at a steady pace are important characteristics for this role.
Evacuation
Volunteers will assist in the evacuation of players and designated officials off the golf course by driving vehicles to the clubhouse area if play is suspended. To volunteer for this committee, a person must be at least 25 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Additionally, Erin Hills may perform a background check.
Tee Service
Volunteers will restock water on the tees and keep the grounds tidy by monitoring and servicing trash and recycling receptacles around the golf course. Must be able to drive a cart and lift 40 lbs.
Practice Area
During the 2 ½ practice days (September 7-9) and each day of the championship, the volunteers will greet players at the practice area, sort and distribute practice balls, remove balls from the short game greens, and collect empty ball bags and discarded items on the practice tee.
Operations
Volunteers will be assigned on an as-needed basis each day. Volunteers must be able to adapt quickly to perform the needed function.
Caddies
Volunteers will distribute and collect the caddie bibs and name strips on them, for both days of stroke play and through all of match play.
Volunteer Uniform, Meals and Free Golf
The volunteer uniform package consists of the following:
- Two (2) navy blue shirts from Peter Millar
- One navy blue quarter-zip from Peter Millar
- One navy blue hat from American Needle
All of the above items feature the championship logo as well as the Blue Mound logo.
